Cars your relatives owned when you were a kid.
What was the first one you remember?

What was your favourite then?

What would be your favourite now?

Been watching that Bangers and Cash on Yesterday... episode had an old mini (cooper s) that was found in a barn... been there untouched since 1978... been used as a bin (full up with Robinson's fruit bottles) ... literally was a load of rust and dust... anyway went to auction and went for £18,000... reckon done up would be in the range of £50k-60k... self preservation society indeed

I remember my uncle owning a Triumph Dolomite Sprint in the 70's/80's

It was in a Teal Blue with a cream coloured leatherette interior.

Not without it's flaws but it did make a wonderful sound

My grandad used have a Datsun Sunny in orange back in the 80s.

Me and my brothers used roll the windows down and pretend we were in the General Lee

Good times.

It was the estate type. A really ugly thing

First car my dad had that I remember was an orange (yes orange) Hillman avenger.

If that doesn’t scream 1980 I don’t know what does

I was amazed when a mate of mine got an Alfa Romeo, as I didn't think that was the sort of thing he'd lash out on.

He told me it was only an Alfa Sud. Not long after he got it, he needed to tie the rear doors together, as their catches bust.

A few years later, the MOT people objected to this and he scrapped it.

My dad had a Austin Westminster - huge car and seemed massive leather seats and a Blaupunkt car radio - we lived on a farm so floor was knackered and a piece of wood jammed in to stop your feet hitting the floor and could see the road in the gaps - older times!

My older sister had a Triumph Herald and you had to hold onto the doors round a corner or they opened and I fell out once

From memory and in order my old man had:

Vauxhall Viva
Citroen CX
Vauxhall Cavalier
Austin Montego
Sierra Sapphire
Ford Mondeo
Ford Mondeo present

My favourite was the Citroen CX. As a kid it was like getting into a spaceship and I loved it when the engine started and the suspension lifted.

I realise now that it was gash. Most of them were. We never had loads of dosh and its my dream to come into some dough and buy him a proper motor. He always wanted a Jag.

My neighbours opposite were always swapping and changing buy my favourite of theirs was a Triumph Dolomite. It was anything but a triumph.

I temporarily lost sight in one eye.*

I wasn't very confident driving without depth perception, so only rescued my car after visiting A&E and didn't drive anymore until I got full-ish vision back.

*Oval-shaped eyeballs, like you have with extreme short-sightedness, puts you at risk of haemorrhages in the eyes when you get beyond mid-fifties. If they're not too severe, the blood eventually clears by iteself

Didn't know that, not sure he does either. He hasn't informed his insurance company of his loss if sight in one eye. Been about 5 years now.

You only need vision in one eye to drive. Though that vision has to be up to passing the numberplate test.

In the 70s, my dad bought a Citroen GS Pallas. He loved it and we travelled around the country in it.
Then he got a new job with a company car, a Vauxhall Cavalier. He hated that shitbox, but it made sense to keep it and sell the Citroen.

“ We once had a brand new beige coloured Datsun Sunny.”

Then you are 100% Indian.

It is an absolute fact that every Datsun in the UK was owned by an Indian.

We once had a brand new beige coloured Datsun Sunny.

My old man was always swapping his cars, we had a Hillman imp, VW beetle, triumph 2000 and a battered old rover. Everyone was a pile of shit 😁
